Dr. Powers is licensed in 49 states plus the District of Columbiaand can provide you, your doctors or clients with primary imagingtests, over-reads/second opinions, education or experttrial testimony and back-up in workers' comp, personal injury, malpractice and other dispute forums. Diagnostic imaging studiesrepresent objective findings that can help buttress your casewith the opposing attorney, mediator, arbitrator or jury.
Objective imaging tests can be helpful in limiting claims tosubjective complaints or soft tissue injury. Sometimes imagingtests can be helpful at dating processes, although this is oftenmore difficult and subjective. At times imaging reports are overreadand inaccurate. Why should your client be paying a claim for aherniated disc when none exists objectively on imaging studies? There are many image interpreters who are poorly trained or whomisinterpret findings. Quality control issues and abuse of theprocess can all be helped by a competent review. So often imagingstudies are of inadequate quality or interpretation is based uponartifact rather than real findings. Second opinions are oftenuseful in those cases in which significant dollars are at stakeor in which there is a question as to whether or not the findingsare real and may have a justification for pursuit by the oppositeparty. Thus, a second opinion or even primary imaging study byDaniel Powers, M.D. may be useful in determining the presenceor absence of visually obvious disease. The absence of such findingsspeaks against a significant claim. The presence of a significantfinding may be helpful in trying to settle the claim sooner ratherthan later.
Dr. Powers has had experience reading tens of thousands ofimaging studies especially on people involved in acute and chronictrauma. He also has vast experience in the interpretation of chestx-rays and CT scans on individuals exposed to industrial dustsand fibers, such as asbestos. In many different cases, it behoovesthe defense to get a second opinion or if necessary a primaryimaging study to try to resolve the issues at hand earlier ratherthan later. When Dr. Powers testifies at trial, he uses an electronic overheadprojection device that allows him to project images either fromvarious imaging studies and/or drawings that he may make directlyto the jury on a large screen TV which you provide to the court. This is very educational to the jury. No longer is the jury lookingat a distant image on a shadow box at such a great distance thatthe findings are not visible to them and the technical descriptions, way over their head. Now they can identify and see the findingswith their own eyes and be aware of what the radiology expert, myself, is discussing. They can feel that they have learned somethingduring the trial and that they have a better understanding ofthe anatomy that is being discussed and feel that they actuallyidentify the presence or absence of disease given this limitededucational presentation. This is satisfying to the jury and workswell with the judges who are happy that they as well as the jurycan see the findings present
